Operation Christmas Child Shoebox Ministry September 28 - October 26

During the month of October, RB Community partners with Samaritan’s Purse, supporting their shoebox ministry called Operation Christmas Child. Samaritan’s Purse has actively helped spread the Word of God and the Love of Jesus since 1993. To date, 232 million shoebox gifts have been delivered to children around the world. That translates into 232,000,000 Gospel opportunities. Samaritan’s Purse includes a Greatest Gift Gospel story booklet in each shoebox, translated into 118 languages, reaching children in more than 100 countries. A Life Saved and Transformed Maykel, an 11-year-old boy in Panama, gave his life to Jesus Christ when he heard the Gospel at an Operation Christmas Child outreach event. He began to attend The Greatest Journey - a 12-week discipleship course - but then was hospitalized with leukemia. Nonetheless, Bolivar Santos, the course teacher, didn’t let Maykel miss a single Bible lesson. He visited Maykel in the hospital and connected with him via video. Miraculously, God healed Maykel. Now, as a young adult (left in the photo), he teaches The Greatest Journey to other boys and girls. How YOU can HELP:

  • Pick up empty shoeboxes in the courtyard each Sunday or in the narthex during the week.

  • Purchase new toys, school supplies, or clothing that is age-appropriate for the child you are packing the shoebox for.

  • DO NOT PACK: soap, liquids, toothpaste, toy weapons, sharp objects, or food items. • Attach the sticker identifying the gift for a boy or girl and the age group.

  • Drop off packed shoeboxes in the office during the week or on Sundays in the courtyard.

Last year, 255 shoeboxes were packed and donated by the RB Community congregation. Let’s make it 300 this year. THANK YOU for your ongoing generosity in supporting our monthly collections. Individuals and agencies receiving our donations are very appreciative and recognize RB Community as a church with a strong outreach presence serving our neighbors in need. The September collection:

  • 200 sack lunches for Interfaith Community Services

  • 2 very full SUV loads of groceries for the 4 Community Care food pantry, plus $100 that the pantry manager used to purchase 1000 cans of beans, fruit, soups, and vegetables from the SD Food Bank. Thank you, Deacons, for one of the carloads of groceries.

  • 763 pairs of new underwear for men, women, and children, plus several bags of socks, have been distributed to New Day Urban Ministries, PUSD Youth in Transition, and San Diego Rescue Mission.

October Grocery Drive-Thru is for Interfaith Community Services on October 4 in the upper parking lot, 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM.
